Sapient Scale:
Class 1- Human without signs of extreme abnormality
Class 1.5-Non-Human/Abnormal extremely close to human in true form, to point of passing as human without any assistance, or Human with enhanced abilities and still resembles human- eg. Magic Users
Class 2- Non-Human/ Abnormal capable of audible speech in human tongues and some measure of dexterity.
Class 2.5-Non-Human/Abnormal capable of audible speech in human tongues but incapable of dexterity.
Class 3-Non-Human/Abnormal with sentient mindset but not capable of audible human speech. (Widest category, requires separation into distinct subcategories- Kirk)
Class 4- Animal, non-sentient

List of Class 3 Beings:

MAGICAL ECHELONS
Creatures with incredibly high magical energy within them and various powers, their blood and body parts can be drained of this energy for spells, though doing this without permission is illegal.

Dragon
AKA: Wyrm, Drake, Serpent, Sea Serpent,
Class 3
These creatures are apparently rich sources of magic, leading to their near extinction. Even mere vials of their blood can garner a good price as they can enhance a Magic-Users abilities incredibly. Dragons grow throughout their whole lives and are capable of flight, breathing fire and other products, and minor telepathy thanks to their rich magical souls. This same Soul defends them from shapeshifters, as without being a trueborn dragon the body kills itself with its fire. Their fires tend to vary with mood, dimming in calm and blazing with passion. They are also plagued by the Pyrethis disease which lurks in 90% of eggs, believed to be a curse.
Characterwise the creatures tend to fall on violence and fire often, but display a surprising amount of cunning from a young age. Males rarely linger on fatherly duties, though mother and hatchling bonds are enormously strong for their childhoods. Unlocks full potential by fifteen by which time fire, wings and then telepathic abilities are accessed. Rumours of rare magic use among them.

Salamander
AKA: Drake, Cherufe,
Class 3
A wingless subspecies of dragon, capable of lighting their entire bodies on fire and surviving any terrestrial heat, however they do not grow beyond the size of a large crocodile, and see to be extremely magical. They are also lazy and quiet, introverted beasts with little interest beyond their daily lives who lived hidden in hot and unstable (even volcanic!) areas of the earth, unlike other mystics which hid using magic and shapeshifting.
(Is it possible the level of human interaction affects the similarity of Mystics to us? Would Class 3’s without experience of humans act ferally? Merits further research)

Unicorn
AKA: Buraq, Kirin, Karkadan
Class 3
Horned horse, presumed extinct due to overhunting. They had the highest magical content of most beings, but while fast and horned and capable of healing themselves, they were peaceful and overly naïve, making them excellent targets if the hunters used an innocent to lure them close.

Great Stag
AKA: Golden Hind, Ceryniean Hind, White Stag, Great Game,
Class 3
Large intelligent deer, highly magical and wise, with a slow paced and intelligent mind. They have either golden or silvery coats, with massive antlers, and so are instinctively seen as any hunters prize despite their sentience, steps must be taken in order to preserve and protect them from extinction.  Legends exist of them granting wishes, and their blood is rather magical, lending them some truth. High reports of changelings to avoid being hunted down, abandoning their own species in the progress.

Phoenix
AKA: Bennu, Vermillion Bird,
Class 3
These large birds are a rare example of an immortal being. Upon death the phoenix will combust to an extreme degree, and once safe, turn to ash and a chick phoenix, usually referred to as the son/daughter of the old, which has fragmented memories of previous lives (perhaps sealed to enable new learning and room for growth?) In adult life they have minor fire magic, can fly, and rare, full magic users. They are srtong magical sources, the long tail feathers are particularly potent for healing as they release the flames during death.
As people, they vary greatly, even from one incarnation to the next (perhaps in an attempt to rebel?) Consistently they have long perspectives and a slow grasp of mortality, younger ones being shaken as they outlive peers and friends more and more, which in turn can lead to isolation. Drowning can kill them permanently, by dousing their regenerative flames.

Raiju
AKA:
Class 3
Incredibly fast creatures, similar to a weasel or fox, they can feed on electricity and also control and release the energy to shock and even electrocute prey, although it is unknown if the creatures actually need to eat. They are extremely rare, and reports claim that they try and chase lightning during storms, despite the abundance of electricity in modern society. Is semi-elemental, like the Salamander, likely highly magical but also very dangerous.

Arkan Sonney
AKA:
Class 3
A magical and skittish boar, capable of changing its size from the size of a mouse to that of a horse, they are extremely afraid of strangers, but can learn to trust someone through tasting their blood. Apparently killing them passes on some sort of blessing, making them a prize for hunters, and an important being to protect, if we could catch them…

SHAPESHIFTING BEINGS
Creatures with the magical ability to naturally assume a human form.

Jorogumo/ Tsuchigumo
AKA: Arachne, Anansi, Giant Spider,
Class 3
Giant spiders with magical abilities, the females can shapeshift to lure humans as beautiful women, while males can knock out prey and produce thinner, almost invisible but still strong variety of string. Modern ones tend to be less aggressive, and even compassionate, although they need to eat in their real forms which requires live meat to cocoon and digest.

Selkie
AKA: Seal, Asrai
Class 3
Seal people from northern seas, capable of shapeshifting and creating magical “skins” naturally, thus the title can be passed between anyone who uses the enchanted sealskin to assume that form, but is usually limited to those born as Selkies and have webbed digits, rather than as other races. They tend to be beautiful, resistant to the cold and extremely vengeful, though with a soft spot for children and kindred spirits.

Berserker
AKA: Werebear, Callisto,
Class 3
Another, similar race of shapeshifters like Selkies, but have the gift in themselves which cannot be passed on, and so transform into exceptionally tough, feral and powerful bears when angry. These are their true forms, but they become stronger and larger when furious, to the point of tearing through metal and shrugging off bullets.

Kitsune
AKA: Huli Jing, Kumiho,
Class 3
Yokai. A female shapeshifting race of foxes with a strong grasp of magic, they are capable of creating veils, semi-real illusionary human forms, from a young age, something no human magic user is capable of until after years or decades of study. They can breed with humans or foxes, but only the females inherit their powers, with the male kits being large, but ordinary foxes. (Sexist magic?) They grow more powerful with age and also grow more tails over time, and only exceptional examples sprouting more than nine. They are mischievous and flirtatious, excellent as scheming and fun loving, but are rather vulnerable when distracted or when things don’t go how they want them to, their powers being based on confidence.

MAGICAL BEINGS
Creatures with limited magical abilities which are difficult to replicate with normal magic.

Quetzacoatl
AKA: Amphiptere, Coatl, Feathered Serpent,
Class 3
Feathered serpent of normal size, said to have some magical abilities over wind and storms. The creatures adapt to their surroundings, new feathers reflecting the overall colour to form a camouflage. Some rumours of them possessing wings appear to be unfounded, and most are in fact rather normal, but there are definitely examples of them having power enough to fly somehow.

Baku
AKA: Dream-Eater, Nightmare, Gajasimha,
Class 3
An incredibly powerful psychic beast, capable of affecting the minds of sentient beings as long as they are asleep. They are capable of reading memories, affecting dreams, full on psychic assaults, hypnotism and even limited control over the actions of the dreamers, making them particularly dangerous. By the same token they apparently make good psychologists, able to make empty still nights of sleep for those with insomnia, or even planting dreams of old memories within people who consent. They are rather unpredictable, but also lazy and quiet beings, little different from small tapirs in appearance save for their long trunks.

Cockatrice
AKA: Alectryon,
Class 3
Hybrid of rooster, avian and drake with a long, lizard like body covered in leathery skin, a frilled and beaked head, two legs, and clawed and feathered front legs. They are flightless and lethally venomous, but their most dangerous ability is their power to petrify a living target into stone with barely a glance. There are guards against this, but also the cockatrice is capable of reversing this with the same gaze, so friendly creatures neutralize their own effects automatically.

Hidebehind
AKA: Blinkdog, Grim
Class 3
Sentient canines capable of teleporting short distances, they are loyal and very doglike, and surprising cunning with their powers so as to hide it and appear to just be odd dogs. They can be very dangerous using their abilities too, biting from several angles instantly and vanishing before a blow can be landed, but when taken by surprise they can be injured, and even killed. Wards can prevent them teleporting into an area, and should be added to all secure facilities. Researched by Ermien Dorwin.

Squonk
AKA: Shoggoth,
Class 3
These creatures possess the strange ability to dissolve into liquid and reform, enabling them to seemingly vanish when in danger and reappear when it is safe. Losing touch of some of their liquid reduces their size, but they can regain it by absorbing other water and integrating it into their body. They are extremely cautious and do so at the best time, trying to keep their ability secret from the danger, or at least to convince them that it is a one-time trick. In appearance they are a slimy hairless dog-like beast, covered in weeping sores, though altogether harmless and merely cowardly.

Hydra
AKA: Yamata no Orochi, Sea Serpent,
Class 3
A serpentine close relative of the dragon, these beings have exceptional healing properties, and indeed grow multiple heads from the stump of any amputations, save for their largest key head which is their greatest weakpoint. They hatch with four heads, and some traditionally decapitate themselves every twelve years in order to grow stronger. Like dragons they grow throughout their lives.
They are often interested in strength, viewing a large number of heads as an achievement, like battle scars, but are rather lethargic in nature and don’t seek out trouble purposefully unless incredibly hungry. When fought, they will use their extra heads carelessly, and this behaviour can be used to track down the real head.

HYBRID BEINGS
Creatures often resembling combinations of various animals, believed to have been created by ancient mages and titans like Echidna out of their constituents.

Pegasus
AKA: Winged Horse, Longma,
Class 3
These intelligent horses are an ancient and rare species capable of flight, tending to have a light and nimble body and capable of great speeds even on the ground. Unlike similar creatures they give birth to live young, and seem to be extremely loyal and dutiful, albeit not particularly forward thinking. There are reports of the creatures having magical properties, and also of them being descendants of unicorns, although they are actually diverse and few are the pure white that people expect.

Hippogryph
AKA: Demigryph (when wingless), Threstral,
Class 3
These creatures are large hybrids, combining pegasi and giant eagles, or gryphons and horses, depending upon which story of their origin you believe. They can grow to almost the size of a stallion, and the strongest percentile are capable of flying with a light rider, and also of galloping quickly, though they are not as footsure as ordinary horses due to the talons.
While often compared to gryphons, the two races seem to have disagreements, the Hippogryph being viewed as tamer and softer hearted and easier to ride, while viewing their cousins as more savage and wild. They are omnivorous, preferring meat and fruit to the hay and grass other horses graze upon, and so can be more difficult to feed in comparison, as well as reproducing by eggs. (Strangely, considering their hindquarters are equine…)

Gryphon
AKA: Demigryph (when wingless), Ziz, Griffin, Griffon, Gryphin, etc (Why are there so many spellings?!)
Class 3
A particularly powerful kind of hybrid, combining the aerial speed and flight of a giant bird with the ferocity and power of a lion, Gryphons are particularly aloof and wild among similar species. They view the sky as their own domain, and a flightless gryphon is scorned and ignored by their peers on an almost instinctive level. They tend to be almost entirely carnivorous and tend to attack by breaking their prey’s back in a single dive, but are rarely swift on the ground, being better suited to climbing than running the flat.

Sleipnir
AKA: Nightmare, Airon,
Class 3
Eight legged horses with thick well protected hides, they are fast and furious and capable of climbing near vertical surfaces like insects using claws merged with their hooves. They were created by ancient norse wizards as steeds, and are very proud and temperamental, only allowing those with fame to their name to ride them. Very rare and long lived, probably some in Kvenland. Dislike trolls and pegasi.

Chimera
AKA: Hybrid,
Class 3
Many headed creature possessing the front and forelegs of a large cat, usually a lion or tiger, a goat head above the first and a goats hind quarters, and a serpentine tail with a venomous snake head. Apparently the creation of either very creative breeding or ancient magic fusing beasts, the chimera is strange unpredictable and bestial. It tends to be carnivorous, the goat head being in a position where grazing is not an option, and instead usually keeps an eye on the surroundings while the lion head does the main thinking.

Jackalope
AKA:
Class 3
A small harelike being with large antelope-like horns, extremely fast, and reacts poorly to disbelief in its existence. More than one researcher has been less than polite and suffered extreme goring injuries.

Cerberus
AKA: Orthrus, Kishi, Cerebus,
Class 3
Many headed canine, capable of resting and using its different heads on an individual level, all three must be severed or damaged greatly for it to die, although loss of blood and the usual methods can word too. They are rather unstable in character, damage can result in personality shifts and memory loss, though they do have more in common with dogs than wolves, being loyal, playful and friendly in their own way.

HIGHER BEINGS
Creatures resembling normal animals to some extent, but often larger and more intelligent, just as humans compared to other apes.

Fenrir
AKA: Big Bad Wolf, Vulkodlak, Shunka Warakin, Gevaudan, Amarok,
Class 3
Large, sentient wolves, growing up to the size of bears, widespread and diverse, although with little by way of magic or supernatural powers. They are pack creatures, preferring to roam than be chained, and their high intellect and cunning, along with great speed and stamina make them highly effective hunters.

Nemean Lion
AKA: Sehkmet, Bastet,
Class 3
Larger than usual, sentient lion, usually dark in colour, and shaggier than the average lion. They are exceptionally tough and strong, fierce and liable to test strangers to get a measure of them, although they are very honourable, taking debts and obligations extremely seriously.

Cancer
AKA: Karkinos, Leviathan,
Class 3
These rare creatures appear like giant lobsters, varying from eight to twenty five foot long. They often work with other aquatic mystics beneath the oceans as guards and scouts, and would appear as mere beasts if not for the fact that when veiled or given a human form they express strong logic and reason.

Buggane
AKA: Moleman,
Class 3
Incredibly strong beasts covered in black fur with strong arms and two tusks, they are tunnellers by nature, capable of breaking their way through solid rock safely, but also very good at blending in among humans. It seems to be because they are shy, dutiful, gentle and humble, very patient and good workers, but when one’s patience is exhausted it would be wise to get out of the way as little short of thick metal can stand in their way.

Ahool
Aka: Camatoz
Class 3
Giant bats, with a wingspan reaching fourteen feet. They are near blind and use echolocation extensively, but also have a deeper clicking language that is advanced as human languages, allowing them to communicate exceedingly well with one another without transforming. They tend to be omnivores, and nocturnal, though that is merely for camouflage and to level the playing field against creatures which can see. Their lower legs are fairly dextrous, capable of some manipulation.

Basilisk
AKA: Lindorm, King of Serpents,
Class 3
A large serpentine non-human which is able to shed and breathe an extremely potent paralytic poison. By the same merit these beings have incredibly powerful immune systems, although due to the frozen muscles of its victims they have been believed to possess petrifying magic like the cockatrice. If anything, the poison is possibly more dangerous, and the only way to safely dispatch of a hostile Basilisk is to keep your distance, anyone within eight feet of its fast and agile body will probably be in their last ten minutes of life unless an antidote is ready, in which case the challenge becomes applying the antidote without being poisoned yourself.
Surprisingly, Basilisks are not unpleasant characters, with great self-control and a patient and responsible attitude, those who live among humans often going to extreme lengths to ensure that no accidents involving them are lethal. Still, it is advised to be cautious.

Iku-Turso
AKA: Dobhar-chu
Class 3
A huge creature resembling a walrus with enormous tusks and strong powerful front legs with which they can pull themselves along on land. They aren’t graceful on land but are incredibly tough and resilient, making their home in the Artic and Antarctic and hunting whales for sustenance.  In the water they can outpace ships, vanish for hours, and reappear quickly and near silently with enough strength to capsize a boat. They can do this to protect their territories, tending to be grumpy and introverted without much care for other beings, but are said to appreciate fine food and generosity, even becoming patrons and protectors of villages if they are given a good regular tribute.

Rompo
AKA: Glawackus,
Class 3
Carnivorous and disrespectful hunters that resemble giant rats or beasts. Very stealthy and dark, rather arrogant and like to steal to prove their own superiority. (Possible that the one I talked to was a jerk…)

VARIOUS BEINGS
Not very magical creatures of varying builds, often very different from mundane animals.

Bunyip
AKA: Afanc, Shellycoat, Muldjewangk,
Class 3
A hairy mammalian creature which tend to live in bogs, swamps and rivers. They have long limbs ending in flipper-like paws to help in swimming, thick hair which often becomes clumped up with mould, mud, shells and weeds that help them disguise themselves and blend into their surroundings, although it interferes with their ability to veil discretely. They often smell bad even if veiled, and have a potent venomous bite.

Hippocampus
AKA: Each-uisge, Water Horse, Kelpsie, Sea Serpent, Ceffyl-Dwyr, Knucker,
Class 3
A large species of large six legged amphibian at home in the cold deep seas with a sticky hide, they are amoral and rather cruel, possibly responsible for numerous drownings every year. They have powerful tails and gills which enable them to swim quickly and effortlessly, and their six legs are useful on land where they are surprisingly nimble and dangerous. They are capable of friendship and playfulness, but rarely afford land dwelling beings that affection.

Dingonek
AKA: Veo, Catoblepas
Class 3
An armoured and powerful creature, covered in tough scales and with a long stinging tail like a scorpion. It has strong horns and claws, but is a rather peaceful herbivore, more interested in protecting itself than attacking. They are rather mundane aside from that, with little magic, although they are intelligent and quick.

Inugami
AKA: Shug monkey, Dwayo,
Class 3
A bipedal, long armed creature with a canine head and long fur, capable of climbing well and using tools, but not of speaking due to their muzzles. They are playful and curious, but also rather strong and fond of wrestling should they get into a fight.

Wyvern
AKA:
Class 3
Similar but weaker than the dragon, the Wyvern is far less magical, as evidenced by it only having four limbs, and the two wing forelegs are far larger and relied on to carry its full weight while flying like pterodactyls. They are green scaled and grow to up to thirty foot long, with a wing span sometimes reaching fifty feet or more, and tend to be rather aggressive, causing them to be almost extinct through recklessness.

Taniwha
AKA: Gargoullie, Isonade, Sobek,
Class 3
Huge broad green reptile with gills, capable of swimming well in fresh and salt water. Viewed as a guardian of sorts, kind hearted, protective and somewhat obsessive, capable of fending of a huge array of threats when on its own turf. They get on poorly with their own kind, instead preferring to reign over a section of shore, swamp, lake or river, and possibly the inspiration for numerous lake monsters. They appreciate tribute from villages in their territory, and can grow somewhat paranoid, to the point of stalking any stranger they spy.

Alp-luachra
AKA: Parasite
Class 3
An unnatural water dwelling little beast which resembles a small leech headed newt. They are surprisingly intelligent but also weak and often attempt to enter partnerships with larger beings where they cling to and feed off the host’s blood in exchange for better health, and a small psychic link to the being to make use of its intelligence.

Tanuki
AKA: Bake-danuki,
Class 3
Small furry beast with great resemblance to the Japanese Racoon-dog, but more in line with the kitsune really, and the two mischievous species tend to rival one another in practical jokes and tricks. Some tanuki can use magic, with powerful illusions in that case if they are skilled and of high pedigree, but where kitsunes tend to try and tempt their victims, tanuki seem to prefer belittling their victims and fooling them. Their sentience seems to vary, and some would be happy to be pets and at the deep end if expected to act as a human being.

Peluda
AKA: Underwater Panther, Cactus Cat
Class 3
Spine covered non-humans resembling a big cat, though with a broad and horned head, a large maw of fangs, a very long whip-like tail, and its long quills hide their appearance when relaxed, often making them look more sluggish and harmless than they really are. They are very resilient, able to live in swamps and rivers, mountains and forests and even deserts if they need to. This is often rare and they are rather friendly, able to be stroked when relaxed, though when agitated their spines mean that it is wise to keep a distance as they are sharp enough to slice and skewer more thoroughly than a thorn briar. They have very sensitive tails which are often hidden, so showing it is a sign of great trust reserved for close friends. (They can get hurt by other Peluda’s spines… So, mates must have to be very, very trusting…)

Oliatiau
AKA: Werepyre, Vukodlak
Class 3
Six limbed creature, with a canine main body and bat-like wings on its back which enable flight. They are fast and darkly coloured, although not so much high altitude, long distance flyers so much as using low and fast sprints to ambush and maim their prey. They appear to have some minor telepathic powers too, and are capable of echolocation and high pitched shrieks to disorientate their prey.

Drust
AKA: Minerkillers, Wyrm, Knocker
Class 3
A subterranean insect-like race, reaching roughly 4-5 metres long while fully extended, but capable of withdrawing their six long spindly legs close to help them squeeze through gaps smaller than a square foot. They are widespread in Eurasia, though rather rare and spend their life’s underground consuming metal which goes to their tough shells, and is the cause of such hatred for them by miners who have had their livelihoods ruined by a small group of hungry Drust. They are very fast diggers, and fairly quick on the ground too, with surprisingly good eyesight and hearing for arachnids, as well as a keen sense of smell and a sense for vibrations somewhat like a seismograph.

They are quite smart, even having their own complicated wailing language, and have occasionally been partnered with the like-wise subterranean kobolds, though this really varies case to case and a Drust could just as easily anger kobolds by gobbling their metal. Some stories even exist claiming they have been used once or twice as pests, imported to rival territories to try and get at their metal supplies and weaken them. Due to their intelligence, the results have swung from following the plan, to eating any cages used and messing up whoever planned to use them. Researched by Jost90.

TITANIC BEINGS
Enormous creatures larger than mundane animals, often rare and long lived.

Grootslang
AKA: Emela-Ntouka, Behemoth , Kaiju,
Class 3
Enormous fleshy tunnelling creature, the size of a house in height and far longer normally, with immense heavy legs and a monstrous mouth, it is capable of preying on almost anything it can catch. They are surprisingly rare, possibly hibernating underground for long periods of time, and don’t care much for humanity, sentients or destruction unless a being proves themself worthy of attention. Even larger and more mysterious  ancient beasts the size of mountains are said to exist, though there have been no recent sightings beyond claims of them being responsible for natural disasters

Kraken
AKA: Ushi-Oni, Cetus, Akkorokamui,
Class 3
Titanic octopus like creature haunting the Atlantic, affiliated with Umibozu.

Island Turtle
AKA: Aspidochelone, Jasconius, Kurma, Akuparra, Lyngbakr,
Class 3
Possibly the largest species ever recorded, these immense beings have been recorded to reach miles in length and millennia in age. Their shells are covered in rock and crust, and have particular fertility as the turtles waste is filtered up to form dirt which plants and trees can grow on. They themselves are often dormant and live filtering water for plankton and claim to feed on moonlight and magic. Others are said to sleep in the depths of the ocean, beyond anything humanity has reached, though it is hard to say where. They seem to be kindly, benevolent creatures for the most part, and one known as Great  Bohol in Indonesia has a human clan that has lived on him for generations. The youngest known is probably in Brazil, nicknamed the “Mbielu-Mbielu-Mbielu” by locals and is merely a hundred and seventy two foot long.

LEGENDARY BEINGS
Very rare mystics viewed as legends even by mages.

Ramidreju
AKA: Ichneumon, Reaper, Kamaitachi,
Class 3
A strange weasel-like being born once a century, said to be extremely long and immune to poisons, gasses, and magics to the point that numerous other mystics regard it with utter fear. It can move fast as the wind and slice a beings throat, and not the Gorgons hair, the Basilisks venom, the Raiju’s thunder, or a Mages power can protect them. Currently is CLASSIFIED

Grim
AKA: Hellhound, Cu Sith, Black Dog, Peng Hou, Garmr,
Class 3
Mysterious shade or spirit which takes the form of a huge black dog, associated with smoke, darkness and fire. A myth even among myths, said to be able to be bound and summoned by capable Magic Users, or just as likely to run rogue. Even whether there is one or multiples is unknown, and the ghoul seems to have a reputation for CLASSIFIED
If you want to add a mystic race/species/clan, then comment and I'll chat with ya and maybe credit the "research" to a name too :)

Right, just a little... fun idea I had, to make up an organisation for the Emergence world which studies and helps mystics and magic, somehow titled, R.U.N., and then started trying to type up loads and loads of species profiles. This is the first few Class 3's, beastial/feral mystics, and I'm not going into a ton of detail. The first name is the most common, the AKA names, are examples of creatures than might be based on it, or if you think, could be similar, but seperate creatures, who knows? Then their class, and a description, rough and quick for most.

I'll update this every so often, when I fill out enough and need to tweak it enough, and will update it as a deviation and change the date to the latest work, although I might make a series of RUN documents. You might have noticed, I like sea monsters!

Is there a class 1.25?
